2007: Start up funding provided by State of Michigan Regional Skills Alliance
grant. The Capital Area Construction Council started with a group of
founding members, a blank computer and empty filing cabinet as an
all-industry effort to address construction workforce development on at
regional level.
2009: Expanded efforts to statewide. Changed name to Michigan Construction
Career Council.
2007 – 2010: Chair, SkillsUSA Michigan Carpentry Technical Committee
2008 - 2010: Administered over $340,000 of federal Workforce Investment Act
Incumbent Worker Training Grants.
2008 - 2009: Launched the Build Our Own initiative and organized LIVE! Project Tours
to connect the construction industry to high school construction related
programs.
2008 - 2010: Partnered with the National Associaton of Women In Construction to
organize three (3) Block Kids Building Block Competitions.
2008 - 2010: Lead organizer of Michigan Construction Career Days.
2008: Organized Green Advantage Environmental Certification training.
Capital Area Michigan Works! YouthBuild:
2009 - 2010: A $1.08 million U.S. Department of Labor grant issued to Captial Area
Michigan Works! funding a YouthBuild program for underserved 18-24 year
old high school drop outs. Program components included attaining GED,
classes at Lansing Community College, and on site construction training
renovating single family houses provided be Ingham County Land Bank.
